News and Announcements

KOSA is delighted to present a workshop in western Kentucky under the direction of Dr. Rob Amchin, professor at the University of Louisville.  Dr. Amchin will be leading attendees in singing, dancing, playing, exploring, and improvising to discover Orff strategies and materials for the general music classroom anytime throughout the year.  For more information, please visit the news page

KOSA would like to congratulate Melissa Marotta, the winner of our 2012 KOSA scholarship.  Melissa will be taking the Level 3 Orff Schulwerk training course with her scholarship!

We had a great attendance at our final workshop.  Just in case you were unable to pick up a copy of the notes, you may find an attachment on the news page to print them out.

What is Orff-Schulwerk?
Orff-Schulwerk is Music for Children - a way to teach and to learn music in a noncompetitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is the pleasure of making fine music with others. There is a place for every child, and each contributes according to his or her ability. Orff-Schulwerk is a unique music learning and teaching approach in which speech, song, and instrumental playing are integrated to teach the elements of music. Improvisation is encouraged as a means of developing creative thinking. Orff-Schulwerk training introduces students of all ages to a lifetime of enjoyable experiences with music, both as participants and as informed listeners.
As the Kentucky Orff-Schulwerk Association begins its thirtieth year of providing quality workshops for the region’s teachers, we invite you to explore the information provided and to join us for an exciting year of musical learning and sharing!
